      Sun acquisition mishandled

      Pros

      If IBM had bought sun, it would have been dismantled. At least Oracle attempted to extend and develop existing product lines.

      Cons

      As a software company, Oracle has no clue on how to market and sell hardware. They decimated the existing sales for my product line by destroying our Sun sales channels and laying off most of the technical sales support.

      Pros

      An stint at Oracle, on your resume, makes getting future jobs easier. You work with some very bright people and that helps you greatly, especially if you are beginning a new career. It pays to work for an industry leader in the Enterprise Software space. Oracle has great benefits in addition to a competitive salary.

      Cons

      As with most large corporations, there is a little bit of bureaucracy. In terms of headcount, there is very little organic growth and that diminishes advancement opportunities as you move up the ladder. Work life balance can get skewed at times. Working for groups, which deal with mature product/features, will lead to stunted professional growth.
