Pros

The benefits and pay are very good in my opinion and are competitive. Low employee contribution and the coverage is pretty good. HSA, 401k, dental, all are reasonably priced. I also think that the pay is very good as well. Pay is well above from several other CROs for similar positions. Good amount of PTO. Ability to work completely from home for a lot of positions.

Cons

Resourcing is a major issue for a lot of departments, especially Programming, biostats, and data management. A lot of people are putting in a ton of overtime and have too much work. Unfortunately not much can be done since they literally don't have enough people to do the work. Many employees have major competing deliverables, and stress is very high often. 60 hour weeks and working weekends is common. So although the pay is better than most CROs, you are working a ton. You should probably be making even more considering the amount of overtime you may be putting in. Many coworkers are very nice, but some managers will not back you up in the long run- typical at any work place. So, very poor work life balance, and usually poor support from managerial level. You can literally alert your management team that you can't meet the hours and expectations without working nights and sunday evenings- they tell you it's ok, that you're doing great, but as soon as you don't start making deliverables due to the tremendous workload, they are quick to turn on you. Pay is good, but you definitely work for it, and the stress isn't worth it.

Pros

Consistently hires great people for the department. Good PTO accrual and paid holidays are good (no sick time). Decent health benefits. Department leadership is good.

Cons

Department leadership is hampered by the policies from Sr mgmt. Too many unrealistic expectations for workload and deadlines. PPD always has to hire new people for the department because of burn out and lack of competitive salaries. Retention is not a focus and the company seems to be happy to be on a merry-go-round of new hires. We never get people from other companies - they let us hire them, train them, give them experience and then cherry-pick out of our ranks with recruitment by our former employees who now work with competitors. Work/life balance is a joke because we're always hiring in our department and it takes the new people several months before they can do more than rudimentary work.

Pros

There are ppl in place to try to make the Finance Department better, developing guidance, coming up with training and trying to decrease errors.....the biggest goal they have for 2016.

Cons

However, the Executive management in place is beholden to the bank that owns the company and they only want more money so have slashed admin costs by putting shared service centers in Bulgaria and Philippines and has hard as they try to make that work, it doesn't. Very big errors each month. Unfortunate.
