Pros

Work from home, Internet stipend, generous PTO based on tenure; 17 days minimum up to 27 . PTO sell back (up to 40 hrs) PTO carry over (up to 80 hrs) 9 paid holidays. Two additional floating holidays, Benefits are decent if single not as good if carrying a family. Maternity and paternity leave. Depending on salary easy to transfer between departments. As a whole, PPD not a bad company just my department.

Cons

No such thing as a 40-hour week more like 55-60 min. Management in my department is clueless, unhelpful and gives vague advice that doesn't help. Triaging RFPs and RFIs is a joke. Assignments always more complicated then led to believe. I have had two check in calls in 4 months with my manager. High turnover due to lack of staff for workload and lack of help with problems. Others lack of planning is your emergency. Lack of clarity on work boundaries. A lot of talk of improvement with little action. Feedback requested but never moved on. My division in my department does not even have team calls since last manager quit after 6 months. Rapidly changing procedures are not communicated well to team. Upper management and HR do not seem to care. I tried to raise an issue with HR regarding performance and was told I could only talk to my manager who was the problem. No one in HR wants to help just cover PPD. PPD just went public. I am sure c-suite got stock options and bonuses, but normal workers received nothing but an email saying thanks for hard work. Perhaps stock employee option is in the works but no word.

Pros

They have free donuts sometimes.

Cons

I don't even know where to begin! Here's a list: * Pay at 40% of national average for a comparable position; * Sparse benefits; * Incompetent management; * Impossible expectations. I was hopeful when I started work at PPD. I was initially assigned to the inhalation products department, which was within my area of expertise. However, I was moved to a completely different department (that I had absolutely no experience in) before I could begin training in the inhalation department, and without my permission. In my new department I quickly found out that the company's focus on "improving turn-around time" meant piling work on lowly assistant scientists, expecting them to complete it without any issues within unreasonably short time frames, and punishing them for any delay. Since their instruments are never maintained and their QC department is even more overworked than the assistant scientists, delays were commonplace. Management discouraged maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Instead of spending time with my fiance and family, I had to work long hours to stay on my boss' good side. After about a year and a half of hard work and low pay, I decided to quit and go back to school. While I'm waiting to hear back from grad programs, I took work as a fry cook and make only ~$0.50/hour less than I did at PPD. It's an absolute joke of a company, and it absolutely ruined my self confidence. For the sake of your mental health, finances, and health of your relationships I would strongly advise against a position at PPD.
