Pros

PTC is well known for it tough but fair environment. The ongoing joke when I was on board was that if you lasted more than 3 months without getting fired, you were a good salesperson. PTC's reputation for being a tough place to get hired, to work, and to succeed is well known in the software industry and if you do happen to succeed there, your marketability will undoubtedly go through the roof upon your departure. In other words, several successful years of meeting/exceeding quota at PTC is a great springboard for the rest of your career. Being a tough place to work should not be seen as a bad thing... if you are a hard worker. Everyone is hyper-focused on success, everyone is sharp, and everyone is an Alpha. If you fit that mold and can thrive in that environment, then you will love PTC. I wouldn't call working here FUN... but it's rewarding as hell, and that's its own kind of unique fun. Product, vision, strategy, culture, attention to customer care, work/life balance... all of these are spot-on. It's very military-like, but again, that is not a bad thing... just simply not for everyone.

Cons

Split-swaps are a nightmare in the company, and it's the only negative observation I have about my years there. The more tenured, experienced, or connected reps know how to play the system and can easily make half their quota or more year over year just by knowing how to manipulate the split-swap system. Management constantly has to duke it out for this, and more often than not, it's not the most deserving or the hardest working rep who brought in the deal who gets the deserved amount of credit... Sometimes unfortunately it all falls to who happens to have the most political juice in the food-chain at the time. Lots a politics involved in this one issue and it's the one thing that I suggested a change on in exit interview. Some might argue that it all evens out in the end, but that is not the case.. Pretty much anyone from PTC will have their war stories to tell over split-swap conflicts.

Cons

money always seems to be tight. lay people off every year can sometimes have a heavy workload, but if you are up for the challenge this isn't necessarily a bad thing
