Too much informal culture

Pros

Good company if you are into medical systems

Cons

Informal culture. No explicit expectations. You are supposed to go and ask for work. People above 50 years settled in various positions and now allowing new comers to settle. I dont' see any recent joiners (who joined 2 to 15 years ago) in my BU in Netherlands. All are oldies who worked on the same product from the last 15+ years. Once you get into the system, they expect you to work on par with them as they do not share their knowledge. Any new concepts are discussed among themselves and closed without your knowledge. All this misalignment reflects everywhere and make the place like hell.

Pros

• Work feels meaningful, what you’re doing actually impacts patient care • Smart, experienced teams who generally want to do things the right way • Good balance of autonomy and support, especially in customer-facing roles • Solid compensation and benefits • Opportunities to grow if you’re willing to take initiative Overall, Philips has been a great place to work. The biggest differentiator is that the work actually matters. You’re not just pushing a product—you’re working in environments where what you do impacts clinicians and patients directly. That gives the job a level of purpose that’s hard to find in a lot of other companies. The people are another major strength. There are a lot of experienced, thoughtful professionals here, especially on the clinical and customer-facing side. Most teams are collaborative and genuinely trying to solve problems, not just check boxes. There’s also a good amount of autonomy. You’re trusted to manage your work, build relationships with customers, and figure things out without being micromanaged. If you’re someone who takes ownership, you can do really well here. That said, it’s still a large organization. Things don’t always move as fast as you’d want, and alignment across different groups can take time. You’ll run into process and structure that can feel heavy at times—but that’s not unique to Philips, that’s just the reality of operating at this scale. A strong company with meaningful work, good people, and solid opportunities. Not perfect, but a place where you can build a real career and feel good about what you’re doing.

Cons

• It’s still a large organization, so things can move slower than you’d like • Internal alignment isn’t always perfect, especially across teams or business units • Like most big companies, there can be layers of process that feel unnecessary at times
