Not a bad place to work

Pros

- meeting/helping the customers. Most being very friendly and chatty. - Always busy so never got bored or fed up with my assigned department -Friendly staff members, supervisors and managers.

Cons

- Hiring very young staff, many of which would turn up when it pleased them. As a result the hard working employees suffered because they were relied on the most. - Having to tidy more than one department because short staffed. - Not always getting recognition for hard work. - Extra shifts not necessarily shared out equally. - Store not treated well by some customers, it's always left messy. - No staff discount!

Pros

No pressure to do extra shifts Generally positive environment to work in Meeting and speaking to complete strangers, and making some impact on their day Getting to know the regular customers well and being able to just have a general chit-chat about nothing in particular Being able to speak to management whenever you come across something that could be improved or changed - whether it be procedures or the mannequins

Cons

The typical retail worker's nightmare - awkward customers When understaffed, the tasks being given to each member of staff can sometimes be a bit overwhelming Lack of communication about change of procedures, although this has really improved over the past few months!

Employee Recognition Exists

Pros

There is an employee of the quarter and anyone can be nominated by other members of staff or management in private ballot. The employee's name is posted up and they receive a gift card for Penneys. It's nice to know we're rewarded for hard work. My favourite part is the opportunity to progress. After only working there a year I was offered the chance to be trained on the Customer Service Desk. Then after a year and a half I went for an interview to become a service leader which I happily got the position. It really mixes things up for me as I'm not always working on the same job and I have way more responsibilties in work. Im studying a business degree at the moment and it really contributes to my future be it with Penneys or not. The wages are also really good and increase the longer you work there as a permanent member of staff.

Cons

Managers are not always the most professional. Some tend to pick favourites and also become overly friendly with workers inside work and outside which becomes obvious in the workplace when it comes to how you might be treated as opposed to someone who they took a strong liking too.
