Pros
Working in customer service gets your foot in the door. It is an interesting and dynamic role with lots of learning opportunity. You come out of it with so much industry knowledge.
Cons
Don't expect the management to help you move into the role that you really want. They don't care. There are tons of opportunities for growth, but you have to be assertive, do your own research, and make your own connections.
