      Great Culture but poor Leadership

      Pros

      Company culture at the employee/colleague level is generally great. We have a lot of fun, people are really nice and friendly, and very professional. I've legitimately elevated my skills/experience by working with so many talented people.

      Cons

      Leadership always seems to suck (apart from maybe my direct manager, who is a bit of an outlier). They make poor decisions, they communicate poorly, they tend to speak in condescending ways, and they're just generally bad personalities to work with/under. Hierarchies are enforced and input from employees doesn't seem considered or respected, regardless of skills/experience. It's a lot of politics/positioning and attempts to blame others without publicly pointing fingers. Every year we do a re-structuring of some sort, but nothing changes. There's also been very limited opportunities for actual career growth/advancement (ie. responsibilities, title, salary), despite opportunities to grow skillsets.

      If you want to be at the intersection of finance and cutting-edge technology, this is the place to be. There is a tangible sense of alignment across the teams; we aren’t just building apps, we are genuinely focused on revolutionizing the financial landscape for Canadians. Tech & Creativity: It is incredibly fun to work alongside some of the most forward-thinking people in the industry. The environment encourages you to bring your own creative solutions to complex problems, and your impact is visible. AI Adoption & Growth: One of the best parts of being at QT right now is how "AI-open" the culture is. We aren't just allowed to use AI; we are actively encouraged to experiment with it. This access has been a massive catalyst for my own personal growth and technical knowledge. Dynamic Atmosphere: There truly is never a dull day. The pace is fast, and the energy is high because everyone is passionate about what they do.

      Cons

      The industry has become much more crowded recently with new fintech and traditional bank competitors. Because of this, the environment can get quite hectic. You really have to bring your "A-game" every single day to stay ahead of the curve. It’s a high-performance culture, so if you aren't ready for a fast-moving, competitive pace, it might feel a bit intense at times.
