Pros

Great opportunity to learn. It's a challenging environment that tests you every day and prepares you for your next career move. The company works on exciting programs. The salaries are very good. Felt proud to work there.

Cons

It's a tough culture, very cut-throat. Toxic. Competitive. There are a lot of good, smart people there. After a while, I couldn't take it anymore. I enjoyed the work but decided I needed to work in a less rigid, less bureaucratic, less toxic culture that would allow me to enjoy my life more rather than being constantly worried about my status at work. I would think twice before going there. Too many mind games.

Pros

Pay is very good and the job presents few technical demands. I recommend this company to someone at a stage in their careers where they want to focus their real energies outside of work. For example, parents with young kids and engineers interested in earning a second degree while workin full-time do well here.

Cons

All levels of management are technically ignorant in general and new to RVS and IR sensors in particular (in my management chain no one has held their current job for more than 2 years). They thus lack technical knowledge or practical experience to make rational decisions. You will lack management support for growing your own or departmental capabilities because they honestly will have no frame of reference in which to evaluate any requests. Thus, decisions are made primarily on a political basis. If you are technically oriented, RVS is a poor choice.

Pros

Company has some great people and fantastic learning opportunities. The company has some very strong and talented individuals that can be great to work with. There is a lot to learn at this company in many areas. Their course portfolio and commitment to continuing development is fantastic. Very good work life balance. Outstanding benefits and more than fair compensation and benefits. The company business space and products can be quite inspiring. Developing products to help our warfighters, lends itself to a cultural sense of pride in the work that Raytheon does and it's openly discussed as such. I would recommend this company to a friend depending on what they are looking for from an employer.

Cons

Very politically charged environment. Promotions and advancement seem to be based more on ones political gamesmanship and ability to schmooze within the right circles. An absolute popularity contest. There seems to be numerous lists of people better than the unwashed masses ;-) "Leadership Development Program," "Ninjas," "Presidents Culture Initiative," [insert flavor of the month here]. While these things aren't bad in and of themselves they do betray a cultural sense of exclusivity that is unattainable to most, including many top performers.
