Great Internship Perks, Terrible Work Experience

Pros

They shipped my car across the country, paid for my flight, and paid for my rental car. Not to mention gave a relocation bonus for housing, that they set up and was subsidized. They could not have made that process any smoother. At work there were many volunteer opportunities and I got to interact with many people from the local community.

Cons

The work itself was extremely boring. Was essentially given a data input task as an Electrical Engineering intern (!) because I was told that "I was cheap." Supervisor often promised more interesting work without ever following through. HR was TERRIBLE. Was not told that I had overtaken hours of PTO, since my available hours were prorated (which was not clear), and was forced to pay back Raytheon 4 years later almost $100 for a negative paid time off balance. A little transparance would have been helpful.

Not the best 'foot in the door'

Pros

Relaxed work environment, some interesting work

Cons

The company likes to say you have career flexibility and you should take charge of your own destiny, except that cannot be further from the truth. If you are a new grad that's looking to get your foot in the door and take ANY engineering job thinking you might be able to move around...don't come here. If you were like me and took the position so you could get an opportunity to do something you actually like, you will feel lied to. I have been trying to move to a field I like from one I am merely functional at. I do good work in my 'functional' field but would be much more productive in my preferred field, yet the company WILL NOT let me apply for postings within my skill level because they are ONLY for people without post college work experience.
