Pros

Good salary, especially compared with the low cost of living in Tucson. Good benefits. Lots of technical course offerings (off-the-clock).

Cons

The hierarchy is extremely vertical: at any given time, you'll have 6-10 different bosses, all of whom have vastly different goals. The "rank and rate" system (the same as Microsoft's dreaded "stack ranking") determines merit raises and promotions entirely based on the opinion of the "functional" leaders who aren't involved in the work that you actually do. The travel policy is abusive; there's too much forced travel and you can't charge or flex travel hours, so you'll get stuck working 60+ hours every week without even being able to record anything past 40 on your timecard. There's also no charge number for most mandatory meetings and some of the mandatory training. Most young engineers get stuck doing paperwork (like writing requirements or documenting nonconformances) until they cease to have any useful technical skills. As you move up in the company, you'll get stuck constantly providing different cost/schedule statuses to each of your bosses, to the point where you have almost no time to get any actual work done.

Pros

The Woburn gym!! They provide(d?) trainers there! They pay pretty well. In 2007, an E04 Senior Software Engineer was making about 90K. An E05 could break 6 figures. (most people end in the 4-5 range) Given the level of ability at the plant, this pay was generous. I left to complete a degree. I am making much more (several offers) than I was there. Of course, I don't see most of the people there leaving, nor would I recommend many at my new employment.

Cons

Work environment. As others have noticed,Raytheon gets paid "by the head". As a result, I have seen managers simply promote their friends. In several casess from 2002-2006, "screaming" incompetent managers existed in Woburn (as well as Bedford, Woburn's predecessor) This would seem bad for the really talented, except that the really talented leave. Several incendents of public bullying - 2006-2007 personally witnessed yikes!

Pros

Flexible schedule - 9/80, but anyone can flex their hours as long as you get 80 hours in each pay period. Decent starting compensation - 20% raise over Lockheed Martin for same job grade. Good benefits - good health insurance options. Job security- when positions go away, the company helps find another job and keeps engineers on overhead as long as it takes.

Cons

Cube farm - huge rooms subdivided into aisles of 4 person cubicles. Lack of leadership - unclear and inconsistent goals. Several programs are perpetually behind schedule and over budget. No accountability - you can be a star and get lots done or coast... nobody notices or cares either way Subpar merit increases - 2% even for high contributors... bad move. Mediocre and overpriced food - food services provided by Eurest
