Pros

Raytheon is a world-wide company with many opportunities for an employees if you are interested in pursuing working in other places around the world, and you may be offerered the chance to travel for work.

Cons

Many business units are management top heavy and this leaves fewer workers to get the work done. The managament and leadership top-heavy organization leads to overabundant effort to improve the processess and working environment, or the product.

Pros

There are lots of opportunities if you are willing to play the corporate game and follow stupid corporate policies. Once you get through all that and prove yourself, a whole new world opens up.

Cons

Even though they claim that promotions are skill based and not time based, I'm getting a sense that they are. Any time I ask about a promotion I get a response along the lines of "typically you have to be in your current position for X years" as opposed to "you need to be able to do X and do Y."

Pros

Raytheon is a good company to work for if benefits are very important to you ( which they are for most people). Also, im pretty sure they pay on par or higher than industry standards for most positions. Once you get a to a certain level at the company, they wont lay you off. If your young and you want to get into a company where you can easily get to a high paying position by a little hard work and alot of sucking up, this company is for you. This is because about 60 percent of the company are baby boomers and will be retiring pretty soon. However, due to the fact that the economy is now in the shitter, they might be retiring a little later than expected.

Cons

The beauracracy at this company is RIDICULOUS. For anything to happen, there is such a long and drawn out process for it to happen. For example, you need a security clearance to work at most places in IDS. I warn you, do not hold your breath if you think that your going to get it in any less than 2 months into when you start working there. This means that for the first two months that you work there, if you work in an area that is secured you just might sitting on your ass the whole time. Also moving up in the company can be a drag if youve been in a certain position for too long. In my opinion, Raytheon has a habit of pigeon holing you if you get too complacent and before you know it you look up and there goes that glass ceiling. Also, they seem to put people in upper management who have close to no technical skills or even a willingness to actually learn dome of the things that the people under them know. This makes for a perfect environment for employees to lose alot of respect for their managers.
