Pros

Your perspective on the employer you work for is a function of your job, the manager you work directly for, and your own outlook on life. It always amazes me that people who don't listen, don't get it, and are ultimately responsible for their own poor experience blame it on everyone else around them. They expect to be fed everything, rather than proactively get engaged and discover what the possibilities are, and how they contribute. Raytheon offers significant career opportunity, if you get engaged and take charge of it yourself. Great pay and benefits, flexible hours, and pretty strong leadership, at least in IDS.

Cons

It seems that the core group of 10% of the employees work hard, all the time. Lots of hours; if you become known as someone who can get it done - you'll keep getting more. Sometimes leadership is too focused on meeting the goal, rather than HOW we meet the goal.

Great Place to work...if you have the network.

Pros

Job Stability depending on what program/function you fulfill. Not the best benefits package around, costs have increased over the three years I've been there, but still competitive within the industry. Definitely better than the alternative... Since Raytheon is so large, there are various programs, and roles available, not to mention a wide array of national and international sites to pursue. So if you are tired of your program, location, it is very possible to move around without burning bridges with the company. If you are a top performer, and are vital to your program, you will be recognized and put on a succession plan.

Cons

Contrary to the above, if you don't have a good network, you will be just another cog in the raytheon machine. If you stay in one place too long, it becomes advantageous to your mgmt, and the program NOT to promote you. You will have to fight for every penny come review time, as the base merit raise is usually around 3%. While they SAY they pay competitively, this type of compensation structure doesn't even keep up with the cost of living, even if you get a higher than average performance review. If you aren't eligible or profit sharing, you will literally find yourself working more & more, for less and less.

Raytheon lays off 115+ and more to come

Pros

Lower level managers seem to care about employees and actually appreciate the work others do.

Cons

Not stable, upper management has not been bringing in new work hence the layoff of April 6th. Upper management handled this layoff poorly. With over 600 jobs posted for IIS and 2400 for Raytheon, management did nothing to help place employees elsewhere, just kicked people out the door.
