Pros

The work/life balance at Raytheon is great. I take every other Friday off and have no problem modifying my time if I have to go to the doctor or anything else that pops up. I also work from home from time to time. That said, not every employee is "allowed" to use the same flexible time benefits. Raytheon is also a great place for entry-level employees looking to get a very robust start to their career. I finished the rotation program where I moved to three different cities/parts of the company and had exposure to three different assignments and areas.

Cons

Raytheon is a VERY large company - 80,000 employees. It's hard to feel like your day to day job is making a difference in such a huge workforce. Change is difficult and things tend to move very slowly. Also, due to the nature of the defense industry this is as bureaucratic as any company can get. There is a large portion of the workforce that comes from a military background so you see that in the culture. Raytheon is also a heavily white middle aged male dominated culture - not a lot of diversity in the company. There is also not a lot of room or encouragement for creativity.

Pros

Raytheon is full of a rapidly aging workforce that is well overdue to be retired, thus leaving alot of opportunities for new hires to move up the food chain quickly. Raytheon is very flexible with work hours, puts education first, and encourages a healthy balance between work and life. They also offer a 9/80 work week program allowing you to enjoy a nice 3 day weekend every other week as well as 12 paid off holidays a year. Other than that, Raytheon offers your typical corporate benefits package, with a nice 100% matching 401K plan up to I believe 3% of your salary.

Cons

With the rapidly aging workforce comes the massive overload of outdated policies and procedures that make doing even the simplest task take way longer than necessary. In theory, this practice is to increase the "quality" of the end product or service, but in actuality, in my opinion, only succeeds in increasing the cost while either maintaining the same quality or arguably DECREASING the quality. Most of the senior engineers whom are only still here because they got locked into a pension plan that was done away with 25 years or so ago, spend most of their time debating who knows the outdated process better.
