Pros

There are good mentors floating around, and if you can find one, it makes working here invaluable. I have gained a lot of competitive work experience thanks to amazing engineers who believed in me and took the time to mentor me. I have several coworkers who feel the same way. (Unfortunately a lot of those good mentors have left the company in the past couple of years.)

Cons

The company is putting extreme effort into hiring, while retention gets blown off. Talented engineers who have been at the company for years watch new hires with less experience get hired in at significantly higher salaries and pay grades. A significant portion of our top talent has left for more competitive commercial opportunities, and it just makes the workload more painful for the experienced employees who stay. There is also some really painful discrimination going on at this company: be very cautious if you are a female. Our HR department is absolutely incompetent.

Good idea - bad implementation

Pros

Raytheon's discriminator in the industry is the people it hires in management. There are some good people trying to do good work.

Cons

The con is the same as the pro - Raytheon gets jobs by hiring newly retired officers from the positions from which decisions were made. There is no consideration to conflict of interest and no consideration to whether the new retirees can manage a fundamentally civilian organization. This leads to the hiring of the recently retired commander of an organization that gave them a contract, same commander taking program management of that same contract and then a ton of back-pedaling when they realize the illegality of that move. "Leaders" are not equipped to worm in a civilian environment amd expect "orders" to be carried out like in the military without concern to the rules. "Bill everything to the customer no matter what it is because I don't want to ask for overhead authorization" is standard. One day, a GAO investigation will be the downfall of Raytheon

Pros

Exposure to big contracts Okay benefits

Cons

No work life balance, casual overtime is expected. Emails are sent on weeknights and on weekends. High turnover for entry-level, mid-level positions. Management constantly trying to fill new requisitions and struggle with retention of young talented employees. Benefits such as flex time and work at home is marketed but not encouraged by management. New internal compliance requirements every year, unnecessary training modules to be completed.
