Pros

Smart Grid Domain and related areas. Recently Siemens has acquired the company so it may have some positive impact.

Cons

The local management is pathetic and hopeless. They have absolutely no clue of how to manage technical people. Politics is their weapon to deal with any issue related to people. There is no one in the management who is accountable for anything. HR is being handled mostly by someone who is just out of college. The management feels that hiding truth and misguiding people is the best way to bury the issues. A clear lack of experience in doing any kind of management is highly visible in all aspects of work. Most of the decisions are taken by gut feeling or by how they were managed by their bosses in the past. The folks at Head Office have a blind trust on the local management or they don't care about anything related to India as long as work is getting done. The truth is that work is getting done just because of few key employees. The local management is under the illusion that they are good payers. Good pay is a relative term, unless you compete with all the companies around you in product space you cannot decide where you stand. But no one can prevent you from boasting what is not true.

Pros

First of all considering the gamut of small vendors in the SCADA industry in India, Siemens offers great pay. But compare it with other big names like ABB or Areva maybe not as good but not too bad either. The best thing about Siemens is the work culture. It extremely relaxed for an MNC of its stature. In my two years here I barely felt any work related pressures. No wonder many employees stay here for over 20 years.

Cons

As a SCADA engg. one barely scratches the surface of the technology. Almost all products and technologies offered have been developed in Germany, so the average engineer here in India is never really exposed to the nitty gritty. Additionally all technical training offered is worthless.

Pros

The work culture is really good. Really diversified work force. For a young person like me, it was a really great learning experience working with experts on projects. The company values experience and work knowledge over any fancy degrees. The work environment is structured in such a way it allows you to settle into your job nicely. You can work according to your own pace and structure. Time discipline and being methodical is greatly appreciated. Doing properly is more important than doing it fast!

Cons

The career progression might seem slow to some people. The reason for this that the org. structure is very flat. There are very few job titles and employee designations. One might feel that one is not climbing up the ladder fast enough as the promotions take a long time to come. The processes and procedures might seem daunting at first.
