Degraded recruitment process

Pros

Brand and salary and good customers

Cons

recruitment process has degraded since I joined 3 years ago. Now the manager and HR management relay a lot on external parties who push CVs of candidates who they have some financial arrangement. Sometimes, managers push us to select candidates ahead of other deserving candidates just because they known the candidate or comes from their network. Nothing wrong with that approach as long as it is not filtering out deserving skilled and experienced candidates.

Pros

- ops treats their technicians good. understanding. lenient. ask for work or OT and you shall receive - Its okay to ask for PTO, they understand your a human being. - siemens have their own training center for basic and advanced training. - work van, paid gas and maintenance, phone and laptop - helpful tip: all automation companies are dumpster fires when it comes to projects. submittals/ engineering will be messed up, programming will be messed up, customer will be unhappy to hear about it and it halting progress.... but thats honestly the job you get paid to do is to fix it all. so if you are okay instantly combusting into flames and say "this is fine" you be okay. if not then not the right industry for you. -comparing to other automation companies siemens has been the best for me

Cons

- management being beat down by big siemens pending on project status, which means for work and stress for you on the bottom to keep on track with projects. - not enough experienced technicians to share the knowledge. you will have to learn by yourself and then help others learn. some people can do it, others cant.

Pros

Work-life balance is FANTASTIC with most roles being 100% remote Great benefits (I don't participate in the medical benefits - I'm talking abot other benefits) which get exponentially better over time due to long vesting schedules

Cons

Like in any HUGE employer, experience will vary greatly across business units, departments, groups, and managers. However, once you are in one business unit, it is very difficult to get to a different one. HR and recruiters do not recognize transferable skills and expect that you can only do the exact same thing you've been doing your whole career. Too much focus on revenue generating positions; those of us who do not directly generate revenue very rarely get recognized or rewarded for our contributions. No room for growth. Siemens very much expects you to move around laterally (both in job titles but also in geographic location) for 20-some years to show your commitment to the company before they'll consider advancing you beyond an individual contributor role. This has been said numerous times by mentors and senior management. Compensation well below market averages at this point with no raises for the past two years.
