Pros

- Recently acquired by Salesforce, hopefully, this will make a better impact in the long term. - Some teams get treated really well. Depending who your director is, could make a great difference.

Cons

- Bullying and mistreatment. Even when being discriminated and escalating things to Human Resources you don’t feel supported. Social exclusion plays a big part in different teams and nobody seems to care. - Bullying in the workplace is a repeated and inappropriate behaviour. Either conducted by one person or a group of people towards someone else. Social exclusion occurs in the workplace and the sad reality is that it really hurts, it impacts someone’s confidence and performance. - Patronizing leadership, not aligned to company values. - A real micro-management company: There are indeed a few good leaders, and few disrespectful leaders. You can get direct message by your director telling you to stop working with your team-mate on something, in order to be quiet and to get back to business cases. You can feel discriminated and threatened. - Comments and jokes on Slack channel related to “alcoholism”, which can be harmful for people who have suffered or had friends who suffered from it. This behaviour might not be aligned with the 9 grounds of discrimination. - Company values are not lived by on a daily basis, they are only buzzwords on the walls. You can feel that the Culture is not always respected between the different teams and leadership. - A Company that talks about inclusion and working as a team, yet people are treated differently and not aligned with the so loved Salesforce Ohana. - You don’t feel that you can voice your ideas and feelings. - Very large cases load. You are expected to work longer hours without extra pay, recognition or getting some time back. If you leave the office on time, you are not seen a good employee. - The office is not great compare to other tech companies at this level. Quality of office spaces is not great, some rooms are really hot without proper heating as well as other meeting rooms being really cold, which is managed by the landlord and not in control of facilities. Moving from really warm to really cold meeting rooms during the day, feels really unhealthy and uncomfortable. - Favouritism treatment and who you are friends with, is what makes a difference at Tableau in Dublin. - Not many possibilities for career growth. - Lack of proper communication from leadership and lack of experience from some managers in Dublin. - Benefits and reward package not competitive compared to other companies in Ireland. - Concerned about miss-alignments between Salesforce and Tableau. While they preach similar values, at Tableau you don’t feel that your word matters, and that they care about your emotional well-being. If you have proven that you’ve been social excluded and discriminated, nothing will be done to resolve it. - Misleading Job & Benefits Descriptions: during the interview process you are being told that you won’t have to worry about food, that they got catering and free food. This I partially true, as it only happens 3 days every quarter end.. Not the most health environmental friendly place to cook or prepare food, one of the grills in the main kitchen is being constantly used by different people at lunch time and often left dirty. This also created an anti-environmental friendly scenario with plenty of food waste each week. If you work for another tech company in Dublin, you should definitely avoid Tableau. Good luck if you do decide or if you need to join!

Pros

Tableau is an exciting company to join at first. They do a great job at selling you on the whole "we are changing the world and are uniquely positioned to do so" narrative that so many software companies present to their employees and customers. There are also a solid group of very smart people to learn from scattered about the company.

Cons

Some sense of cockiness may have been acceptable in the early days of "self-service" BI tools, but the competitive landscape had changed greatly and competitive products are catching up rapidly in terms of capability and value. The dismissive attitude towards all competition seems to have led to a number of toxic cultural attributes such as an undue sense of superiority by members of the sales force who "won" consistently in the early days when Tableau was the only "drag and drop" BI tool around. These reps now maintain very preferential territories with cherry-picked accounts across multiple territories. This compounds the problem further as their success is artificially inflated, they are not forced to implement or create new strategies in order to succeed, and it fosters an undue sense of superiority. While management insists that all territories are divided as equally as possible based on unbiased data, I've seen the process and assure you that favoritism is heavily in play and it's not all "data-driven". Another huge area of concern is how they are implementing their "diversity and inclusion" initiative. I believe in D&I programs and the value behind them, but they need to be well thought-out and executed in order to make sure it actually accomplishes the underlying goals or the program. Tableau's efforts here are.... disturbing. Instead of a slow-burn of education, discussions and panels to help educate the company on the value of diversity and recognition of unconscious bias, they are simply dictating to hiring managers and they don't want white males. I was told verbatim by an HR representative when looking for a new member of my team "remember, we don't want to hire someone who.... looks like that (motioning to a white male team member)" This comment almost made me sick on the spot. Is that "inclusion"? Another "inclusion" problem they have is around personality types. They seem to find value only in people that have bright, bubbly, overly-positive personalities. They want people with huge mouth-open smiles taking selfies with their (non white-male) friends in front of Tableau logos. That's not a bad thing for advertising, but a successful company takes all kinds. Some of the smartest people I know (and even very successful sales people) have been quiet and introspective

Not worth it

Pros

Great paid health benefits. RSUs that vest fairly quickly. Yearly bonus is nice too. The offices offer a lot of free food and snacks.

Cons

Weirdest interview process ever. Very difficult on boarding process. Training is lackluster with no unified processes for helping new hires be successful. Pay is low!! I’m not kidding. You will not get paid what you’re worth here. It’s a company wide policy. High turnover and they’re constantly hiring to fill those lost positions.
