Pros

Culture is great and the product truly helps people. Most managers are there to help you succeed.

Cons

Pay, Pay & Pay- Have to pay a fair wage. In my tenure to include me I left for a similiar position but at almost double the OTE. In order to keep talent you have to pay talent. It is true Tableau will not negotiate your starting salary but promise to increase on performance. Year one I was over 100% annual, year two I hit annual in August. No real pay increase. Insult to injury on the enterprise team there were ZERO accelerators. Seriously who in sales doesn't get the chance to better their OTE and company? Lastly I left because no one could tell me my next role path. I wanted to be in the filed and depending who I spoke with in upper management I got different responses.

Learning to scale. Growing fast, but feeling some pain.

Pros

The opportunity to work for a leader in a relatively young industry and develop skills that will be in wide demand across sectors is not to be overlooked. Hands down the smartest most capable development and operations teams I've worked with in nearly a decade of Seattle metro it work. Limitless opportunity to get hands on experience with best in class tools, implemented by smart people. Fairly meritocratic organization: surprisingly little politics for the scale they've achieved. It'll be interesting to see if and how the new CEO changes things. There is an opportunity to drive cross team alignments that could lead to infighting, or a more efficient and focused business.

Cons

The stock price collapse is a double whammy given that stock based compensation is a large component of pay. The "freakishly friendly" culture exists, but doesn't include everyone. It feels like any other popularity oriented place since jr high to me. Maintaining team unity doesn't just happen, it takes dedicated effort to keeping people on the same page. Just being part of the team feels like an uphill battle if you haven't been one of the cool kids all your life. Tableau focused on growing as fast as possible, and now faces a LOT of redundancies in workflow and costs as a result. Belt tightening and streamlining is now necessary as a publicly traded company, and the process unavoidably leads to some frustration. Day to day you're either dealing with some redundancy, or figuring out the best case for getting rid of it. This all takes focus away from building the best possible products.
