Pros

You will never be fired. All Tata group companies have this policy of job guarantee. They will never fire people even in tougher economic times unless the company is going to sink. Tata has brand value that it's a good company that has society value & even apart from profits, they engage in intitiatives that says about their social responsibility Initial stages you get oppurtunties to work outside India & monetary wise it's beneficiary They care for employees and the working conditions are not harsh as some of the other IT companies I've heard. Overall, it's a good company to work if you are a person wanting mediocre way of life without much surprises.

Cons

Penny wise & Pound foolish. This is what always comes in my mind when I think of my company. They are involved in cost reduction to an extent you can never imagine. It's a good thing to reduce your operating costs but not at the cost of earning employee dissatisfaction. Even to get any requirements done for project needs(such as a laptop), you'll have to have approval from CFO. One more thing I particularly dislike is, few people work hard and everyone bask in their glory. We have some very incompetent managers at all levels and they don't have the authority to fire people who are liability to the company Promotion/career advancement are always experience based rather than performance based like good old government agencies

Pros

ethics, opportunity to learn Tata Consultancy Services was established in the year 1968. TCS is considered a pioneer in the Indian IT industry[4]. Despite unfavorable government regulations, like the License Raj, the company succeeded in establishing the Indian IT Industry. It began as the "Tata Computer Centre", a division of the Tata Group, whose main business was to provide computer services to other group companies. F C Kohli was its first General Manager. The legendary JRD Tata was its first Chairman and was followed by luminaries such as Nani Palkhivala. One of TCS' first assignments was to provide punch card services to a sister concern, Tata Steel (then TISCO). It later bagged the country's first software project, the Inter-Branch Reconciliation System (IBRS) for the Central Bank of India[5]. It also provided bureau services to Unit Trust of India, thus becoming one of the first companies to offer BPO services. In the early 1970s, TCS started exporting its services. TCS's first international order came from Burroughs, one of the first business computer manufacturers. TCS was assigned to write code for the Burroughs machines for several US-based clients[6]. This experience also helped TCS bag its first onsite project - the Institutional Group & Information Company (IGIC), a data centre for ten banks, which catered to two million customers in the US, assigned TCS the task of maintaining and upgrading its computer systems[7].
