Pros

It was a very great experience being apart of something so large and impactful to the world. My first week at Tesla had to be one of my favorites. Getting a factory tour and picking up my laptop from the giga factory on the first day was super exciting and built up a lot of anticipation for the rest of my internship. I must say that my team made my experience at Tesla really great. My manager was such a great guy and I am extremely thankful for him. he allowed me to take on self made projects and gave me lots of freedom with what I wanted to accomplish during my internship. Many times my manager and I would sit down and I would just ask him for career and life advice. These conversations were the highlight of my internship, just hearing his wisdom, experience, and goals was very enlightening.

Cons

Being accepted for an internship for the first time is very exciting, especially when it is for a prestigious company like Tesla. There is lot of anticipation and nerves involved with getting an internship, at least there was for me. Because Tesla is such a big and prestigious company I was expecting their intern experience to be very well put together. I was expecting big intern events with fun and exciting things to do. However this was not really the case. There was not really any exciting events for new hires, we kind of just got thrown into the work. During my internship I was looking forward to having the opportunity to present my work and progress to upper management (my senior manager). My team would carryout monthly meetings where we would have the opportunity to report our findings and progress to our senior manager. Unfortunately my senior manager canceled 2 of the 3 meetings we were supposed to have and I was only able to present my progress once. This was slightly upsetting. I also found that my team and manager had a lot of great ideas but, some of those ideas were pushed to the side and overlooked due to the senior managers personal ideas and goals. Overall this was a mostly positive experience, it was difficult to have an impact within a company thats to the scale of Tesla. If you are looking for projects that excite you and that you are passionate about, find them on your own and present the ideas to your manager.
