Pros

If you are looking for a place where you want to grow internally, fall in love with technology, this is the best place for that. There is no doubt about it. There are awesome people in ThoughtWorks, the moment you come in contact with them, surely one is confirmed to get infected by the disease of technical love that they possess. One might be dumb in tech, might not even have interest in tech at all, it doesn't matter. "Love for tech" is a kind of disease that freely flows here. One is sure to get infected.

Cons

I wont say any downsides. But people who get a chance to work with the awesome folks present here are lucky. They should not under utilise the opportunity that they get here.

Not as good as it looks

Pros

1. Peers are great; consultants hired through the company's rigorous interview process are generally smart and many have great personality traits. 2. Working hours are still flexible to a certain extent due to its small-mid size operations. 3. The company promotes a highly collaborative environment through lots of teamwork and pairing practices.

Cons

1. The company culture is not exactly like what they preached. ThoughtWorks say they wanted diversity but they are actually looking for the same type of people with diverse exteriors. 2. Leadership team is disastrous. ThoughtWorks is a flatish organization with no reporting structure. It sounds good at first and gives you an impression that everyone's opinion is valued. Having a relatively flat structure doesn't mean there is no hierarchy, meaning the opinions that matter are those of the principal/lead consultants. Since all consultants progress through the ranks without direct people management experience, they are gravely lacking in leadership qualities. 3. Projects brought in are mostly uninteresting and you rarely get to work on latest technology. The choices are really banks, banks and banks. 4. Attrition rate is rising and the management team cannot be bothered; people who left are just people with the wrong culture fit.

Pros

ThoughtWorks has its reputation and at times they live up to it. They have great projects, amazing people, awesome culture and it feels like a family. The training in India for grads is great, if your trainer likes you. There's space for opportunity and they're flexible if you want to do things like volunteering. The "Pillar 3" of social and economic justice is a core part of the culture and not just for show. Great teams, with plenty of team and company activities like the away days and local office days. They're really flexible on changing roles and it's more common for you to be staffed as different things rather than be pigeon holed into one role.

Cons

It's not a place for graduates. "The beach", which is where you're left to rot in a corner until staffing have bargained with someone to put you on their project. Six months on the beach as a graduate with no support was not fun, to say the least. Lack of support from seniority, especially in the Manchester office. It's chaotic to say the least, especially if the slightest thing goes wrong. They under pay massively and expect a ridiculous amount of devotion, travel, work hours - including weekends. In their recruitment videos they boast how you can walk into their offices and be who you are, yet their culture of feedback rips you to shreds. A few people, including myself, have said they felt like they needed a personality transplant when they got there. My advice for graduates is don't bother and apply as a lateral hire.
