Pros

The internship is fulfilling when you're working on a country or thematic report. You feel like the work you do actually makes a difference.

Cons

More often than not, the work assigned to interns is incredibly monotonous and boring. The Washington office of the UNDP is probably one of the most boring places I've ever had the misfortune of working. There is minimal interaction among the staff and the interns. It's dead silent most of the time.

Pros

Excellent work for a consultant. I would recommend this to anyone contemplating consultancy work on Climate Change and Environment, or MDG, or Gender, or humanitarian work.

Cons

The consultancy rates are not quite competitive with other UN agencies. The financial bid has almost the same weight as the technical one which favors cheaper bids.
