Interesting work that can hopefully help people, good salary and benefits.

Cons

The organization can be slow and bureaucratic, but this is highly dependent on the management at that particular time (it rotates every 3 years or so). Furthermore, in developing countries it can be difficult to deal with the counterpart (usually Government), but that (and the ensuing frustration) is part of the challenge.

Professional growth opportunities, you get to know UN procedures which is a plus and looks really good on your resume. Once you're in it's easier to move to other departments or countries.
