Pros

- Focused on impact - Engaged in both high-level, political advocacy and on the ground delivery - Deep relationships in the 170 programme countries in which it operates

Cons

- Bureaucracy as you would expect from any large, publicly funded institution - Development work takes time, so progress can seem slow - Not much slack in the system to invest in professional growth - There is more work to do than there are hours in the day, so one needs to be boundaried with one's time -- or decide to make the job one's life

Pros

If you are open to learn, there is a lot to learn and grow personally. However, one should be mindful of that otherwise you might end up chasing tasks and won't have time for personal growth. Because, the more you do, you will be loaded with more. There, you can't say this is not in my JD. Sometimes, amazing people assigned to the mission, who come with all grace of humanity. If you are aware of your environment, focused on your goal, network with people at the HQ and regional levels, there is a room to grow. But be mindful of your actions always.

Cons

The main issue lies on mid-level managers. Any opportunity for growth is blocked by them. Learning is not an option, unless you invest on yourself. That also has two challenges, 1. you are not paid enough to pay for your trainings; 2. you will be overwhelmed by the work you will be given and won't have energy to learn. If you are performing well, they don't want you to leave, thus block every possible opportunity you get. Even if the law globally gives you the right to complain to higher authority or ombudsman people are afraid of retaliation during the process and all the hassles that come with it, thus accept all the harassments. Favoritism is also one other pain, where people who talk and truckle are more favored.
