Once you get passed the probationary phase, it’s almost impossible to get fired

Cons

Because people can’t get fired, bad employees are often promoted so they can get moved out of their current shop. Also, pay is not competitive with the private sector.

Great interactions and experience with the airmen who you develop software for. Flexible schedules with plenty of days off that increase with time on job. You can have one day off every two weeks, you get all national holidays off, and start with one additional day off a month which increases to 2 a month.

Cons

Little remote work, although this may be starting to change. Slow rate of innovation for security and budget concerns.

As you can expect salary is usually less than industry and due to the nature of the work (National Security) sometimes bureaucracy and procedure can bog down innovation.
