A good start to many promising careers, but you may stagnate depending on your goals.
Pros
The MGIB, free health care, dental care, and vision care are all good reasons to work for the USAF. The pay is decent. You receive 30 days of vacation a year, and depending on the career field you choose there are many opportunities for professional development. It's a good opportunity to serve your country. The retirement package is tempting, especially if you reach higher ranks.
Cons
As an enlisted member in the USAF, you will unfortunately not be afforded much respect from officers and civilian coworkers; this is especially true in the intelligence field. The pay is low compared to similar jobs in the civilian sector. Though you are serving your country, you give up many rights by joining the military, it is indeed a lifestyle...not just a job. The danger of deploying is ever present, and divorce rates are higher in the military due to the high levels of stress. Overall, I believe that the USAF is a good starting point for someone who doesn't have many options and wants to get out of their home town, but it takes a certain type of personality to stick it out. In general, the USAF promotes much slower than the other branches of military service, which can be disheartening in a joint environment.
