Pros

Steady paycheck, average medical benefits, great education benefits

Cons

You lose some freedom such as having curfews if living in another country or if your an airman still living in the dorms. The base I was at didn't allow alcohol in the dorms even if your were of legal age. Leadership is terrible in most cases because they are only concerned about their well being and their promotions, not yours. POLITICS is guaranteed, the possibility of moving from state to state or to another country is fairly high.

Pros

Depnding on who your boss is, you could have a great or awful experience (however bosses move around a fair amount, so if you don't like yours, just wait). I was lucky enough to work for some incredible bosses who really treated their people right. The Air Force offers incredible (especially with the new GI Bill) educational opportunities. In addition the work is sually challenging, and you know you are making a difference in your work. Locations are all over the world, and bosses are very supportive in trying to find a new location. If you decide to leave, you leave with great experience and possibly a security clearance.

Cons

The Air Force deploys. The Air Force moves. It can be very hard to have a stable life for your family or your children because of all of the moves that are made. The Air Force "owns" you 24/7, and all leave is based on that - so you don't have weekends off, automatically.

Pros

It has great benefits and you get alot of stuff for nothing! It lets you travel and your time counts toward a retirement as early as 45 years of age depending on some principles and certain things.

Cons

You are at their mercy, you dont decide what you want to do. Very often times you are put in a position to lead but your not allowed to lead, your just the person they get to holler at if anything goes wrong. Trust me, something is gonna go wrong. Alot of the senior leaders dont know what the other one is doing and your always getting conflicted information which means half are doing it right and the other half are doing it wrong. But since one half did it wrong now everyone has to have a do over. If we were a major commercial/private business, we'd be closed down by now. This job is wasteful and alot of money spent on things that aren't needed. The money makes it to senior leaders and they order new furniture for example for themselves meanwhile the maintenance office printer is on an end table thats over 25 years old but we dont have money for that. Or how about the fact that the workers spend what they need in replacement parts but the unit cant supply money for a raise or even renew the contract for people to continue to clean the bathrooms!!!
