The Air Force is a great place to work, but there is alot of bureaucratic inertia to work through

Pros

Great job satisfaction. You really get to work on programs that can truly make a difference for the American people. A sense of pride is the best way to describe what you are in for when you accomplish what you need to for the Air Force.

Cons

It is just an absolutely gigantic bureaucracy. Your bosses will probably be so set on maintaining their "piece of the pie" that you will be very very frustrated. Another downside is the waste. When you hear about the government spending 10000 dollars on a toilet seat...well its not that bad, but its definitely not good

Pros

Management provides the tools necessary to move forward and to accomplish goals. They encourage an entrepreneurial approach to solving problems and providing business solutions. Compensation is moderate but benefits are strong. There is a fully funded retirement plan that operates in the black consistently. Optional 401K with small match is also available. AFA is a family-friendly employer.

Cons

Management does not always provide the staffing and staffing expertise to accoumplish goals. Compensation is not competitive with those of similar responsibilities in our area. Fringe rewards are based on time-in-service rather than on merit. Hours can be long.
