Pros

pride in organization. you belong to something that is much bigger than yourself and feel that you are working for a (albeit dysfunctional at times) familiy. The feeling that there will always be someone there for you. Helping develop young people into responsible citizens who can contribute to society when they decide to move on.

Cons

lack of control over assignments. same pay for all of given rank regardless of performance. instability. You do not get a lot of say as to what you do or where you go or who you work with or for.

Pros

Espirt de corps, camaraderie, serving your Nation. This Band of Brothers is the first to fight and second to none. Excellent promotion opportunities, based on merit and not where you went to school or where you grew up.

Cons

Deployments, time away from home, long hours, oftentimes dangerous work conditions. With the deployment cycle in today's military, one has to join the Marine Corps knowing that many arduous and difficult overseas assignments await. However, as President Reagan said, "Some people work an entire lifetime and wonder if they ever made a difference to the world. But the Marines don't have that problem."

Pros

The pride, leadership development and the challenge of working for an elite service known as the 911 of the world. The Marine Corps prides itself on living by a code of ethics. Leaders are expected to epitomize the (14) leadership traits, i.e. Justice, judgement, dependability, integrity, decisiveness, tact, initiative, endurance, bearing, unselfishness etc. Also, the Marine Corps tells you what you need to be successful. There is no guess work. Marines are expected to meet physical fitness requirements, know yourself and seek improvement through education etc.

Cons

None. Most issues are personality driven and not a reflection of the Corps.
