Pros

You get an immense amount of responsibility immediately upon the completion of your initial training. You learn a great deal about leadership and management. There are opportunities to continue your education.

Cons

In personnel matters, the Navy is totally inflexible by nature. Most mid-level managers are afraid to rock the boat. Senior leadership is very good, but you have to get through that middle layer.

Pros

Great opportunity to do important work and travel throughout the world. Strong commitment to training and paid advanced education opportunities. Excellent retirement program. Rewarding work and probably best leadership training in the world.

Cons

May occasionally be sent to very dangerous locations. Sometimes have no control where your sent and work hours can be very long on occasion but usually are pretty good. Manatory innoculations, some of dubious saferty, ie anthrax. Lots of rules to follow.
