Pros

Great medical and dental for your dependents - not so much for you. Quick advancement! (made 1st in 4 years 8 months) Great job skills for when you get out!

Cons

Horrible working hours. 100 hr weeks, odd working hours, and looooong days sometimes (6am to 8pm) Food quality is subpar at best Enlisted personnel are the backbone and most populous group in the military, and as such are treated very poorly.

Pros

Comraderie, a sense of purpose and the opportunity to lead, mentor and make a difference. Tremendous resposibility at an early age. You will become rich with irreplaceable life experiences.

Cons

Stay away if you are unwilling to be fit, selfless and proactive. Long hours and low pay when you initially join. Deployments are challenging and short-notice transfers cannot be refused.

The Navy is a meritocracy and hard work and dedication will take you far. In general, the people you work with are great. Lots of opportunity for travel and professional development. For many specialities, the salary and benefits are very competitive.

Cons

You can expect to work long hours with no overtime. You are required to move frequently. You will be put in harm's way.
