Pros

Great opportunities for management and leadership. Unique travel experiences. There is a lot of prestige being a Naval Officer and one feels like they are contributing to something bigger than themselves. Great camaraderie in the workplace.

Cons

Promotion is timing based, not merit-based which is soul-crushing. Work life balance is terrible.

Pros

No doubt being able to complete missions is the most satisfying part of the job. Some missions are really rewarding and worthwhile. At the end of some days you can feel certain you did something positive. The pay is good too. No 18 year old kid, unless he's a computer wiz, will get paid what an E-1 in the military does, and officer pay is very good. Some of the leaders we have a truly amazing people, outstanding role models for junior personnel.

Cons

That being said, most of your days will not be so rewarding. A great deal of your time will be spent spinning in circles because the senior leadership can't figure out where to go, or what it wants to do. You'll also be away from home and family a great deal. Expect to miss MANY holidays and special days (birthdays, and such).
