Pros

Job Growth, location changes are easy, vacation time is 26 days per year, pension, 5% 401k match, professional freedom, active involvement in project teams, travel, sick leave, great healthcare plan choices, depending on locality, pay is average.

Cons

Communication frustration, beauracracy, frequent rotation of employees on current project teams, average evaluations. Difficult to gain higher performance ratings, poor project managers.

Pros

After some time, the pay is fairly good. You directly control your advancement and promotions. You get out of it what you put into it. Also, the benefits are second to none. With the passing of the new GI Bill, college will now be completely paid for, you will recieve a tax free living stipend based on cost of living for your area, and you will recieve $1000 per year for books.

Cons

Lots of time away from home, and the leadership can be less than inspiring a times. You will be working with the very best, and in cases, some of the worst people the US has to offer.

Pros

The best reason to work for the Navy varies by what job you have and what rank you hold. There are some jobs that can be challenging and rewarding, but there are others that leave you over work and unappreciated. The Navy does ensure a stable pay check and health care can be a benefit if you are ill enough to receive proper attention and care.

Cons

Downsides to the Navy that I have experienced include: Poor management, hazardous working environments, poor living conditions, and extend periods of time at sea. The Navy has a tendency to operate on a policy of leadership by attrition. Meaning those that can lead, leave. The level of hazards that you encounter will vary depending by job, and it is important that you always are mindful of your own safety. The work living conditions are mostly found out to sea where food is questionable at best and personal space is a misnomer. But the Navy will provide for all your basic needs, as defined by the Navy.
