      Pros

      Camaraderie, Experience, service to country and fellow patriots, travel, excellent duty stations. Many resources for education and upward mobility. Allows applying the principles of medicine to where it helps the most, the sailors and marines who need it. Great way to gain experience of a lifetime. To serve an entity that is greater than the sum of all of its components. Serves as a method of discipline and honor. You serve with pride and earn the respect of those around you,

      Cons

      Family separation. High likelihood of Having to move after completing a tour. Could use more mentorship in the officer ranks. Having to negotiate with a detailed for future assignments, which becomes stressful.

      Pros

      Friendly co-workers and Division Head was very supportive and encouraging. Government job with typical government benefits (10 Federal holidays, ok pay, good retirement benefits).

      Cons

      LOCATION sucks....60 miles south of DC and no Interstate system...commute was horrible. Entiretly too much training thrown at new employees at one time....hard to digest and understand how to use because you were hardly at your desk long enough to actually put the "classroom" training to use. Have to worry every time congress has budget and spending issues. First thing they talk about is putting government employees on furlow for several weeks.

      Surface Warfare...It's a lifestyle, not just a career

      Pros

      Service to country, mostly safe environments (won't get shot at), great benefits like free medical / dental.

      Cons

      "Surface warfare officers eat their young"...sink or swim environment, tough to find a mentor, and very thin pyramid organizational structure meaning the top jobs (Commanding Officers of ships and shore stations) are few and far between. One bad fitness report can derail a career.
