Pros

The UN may be a bit conservative and stodgy, but you can hardly complain about great benefits, six-figure salaries, and job security while also serving those in dire need around the world.

Cons

Smaller companies are more nimble, and the system can be very hierarchical if you're in a bad team.

Pros

Very competitive pay, great benefits, 6-week vacation!

Cons

There is a lot of inner politics, favoritism is rampant. It is difficult to get a promotion.

Pros

The environment is great, there is a lot of diversity.

Cons

Too much bureaucracy and almost impossible to get promoted. It is hard to do things differently due to the bureaucratic nature of the organization. From what I understand, promotion from within is difficult to accomplish. It is easier to get experience outside and then apply for higher level positions, which are also difficult to get as they are mostly earmarked.
