I worked at VFS Singapore and managers allow staff to be verbally abused by visa applicants, telling us to suck it up and we have no protection from aggressive applicants whatsoever. Promotions are nonexistent and there was a case where HR offered a promotion to someone who was willing to retain their current pay instead of promoting a more senior person (to cut cost as they won't need to give increment). While I was working there, it was hard to take urgent leave even when a family member has passed on or is sick. This happened to a colleague of mine who's Brother in law passed away and our manager told her to come for work anyway. Managers were the fuel and fire when it comes to gossip and backbiting. There was also a very high rate of employee turnover with people quitting just after a week or two as they could not stand the working environment. Security was minimal with 2 elderly security guards at the entrance and they did not have the physical ability to stop any aggressive applicants at all. Overall, the workplace from hell. The only thing that kept me going was the good colleagues.
