Pros
Great culture in most of the company outside of SLED organization Good Insurance Innovative company
Cons
STAY AWAY FROM VMWARE SLED. These Drawbacks are specific to SLED - I would highly recommend staying away from State Local Government and Education vertical within VMware. Don't join SLED group within VMware, there are better opportunities within VMware than SLED. SLED Culture and leadership are toxic. I worked as Solutions Engineer in SLED. During my time, I had pleasure to work with some of the brightest engineers. However, Quota pressures was very high and expectations were unreasonable such as sale a solution that doesn't work or fix a solution that was sold before I started and would have never worked. Solution selling methodology changes every month or quarter, You get insane amount of training assignment, be ready to put in 80-90 hours a week. VMware is losing top talent to Amazon, Google, Microsoft and IBM. You are expected to be an engineer and account manager at the same time. I had 3 different bosses during my tenure of less than 2 years. In Midwest SLED practice has revolving door for AEs, SEs and Directors. Senior Directors and SE managers are clueless, VMware is absorbing all the untalented people that ware laid off from Symantec and HPe at various levels, . Incompetent ones end up staying. They are able to recruit new talent by telling them story of great opportunities and almost everyone buys into it due to VMware's reputation only to find out most of them were false. Tertiary realignment is very frequent and you lose. If you have a stable role don't fall for VMware SLED organization and stay where you are. If you are desperate in getting a new job then know that if you go to VMware SLED you might it might be a wobbly stepping stone at the best and you might be better off somewhere else. During my short time in SLED there were almost 30 people quit or let go out of a team of 45. Average time spent in their role was 8 months.
