Pros

Good tech, smart people, great health insurance

Cons

No one in sales is making real money. $4million annual quotas and people aren't even making six figures? Not even 1% of sales?? That's just insulting. Micromanagement straight from the Dell playbook - go figure, since most of their Austin managers and employees were poached from Dell. Success (which means pay) depends mostly on who you suck up to in management and therefore what territory they give you. Work/life balance and vacation policy are a joke. Frat bro / sorority sister culture. Office is in the middle of 360, so you're going to be stuck in traffic an hour a day unless you live in Westlake or downtown. Clearly a haves and have-nots comparison between Austin and the Palo Alto campus. They even started whittling down our choice of snacks from the break room, meanwhile Palo Alto has a made-to-order cafeteria with over 10 kinds of food. No onsite cafeteria, and the food trucks sometimes just don't show up.

Not for the faint hearted

Pros

Some good products, good clear strategy and vision for a software defined enterprise. Lots of competent long-serving technical consultants are the backbone of the sales organisation.

Cons

As a company VMware are having to transition from being a dominant player in a clear area (compute vitualization) to a contender across the Cloud Infrstructure space. As such there are sudden shifts in emphasis and organisational changes. This has meant pressure on positions and people and they do not always handle it well. In the UK there seems to be a high attrition rate amongst sales and sales management. It looks as though the senior managers are immune so there is a lot of churn lower down. The turnover in sales people was high due to a number of factors including unacheiveable targets, 6 month plans, random redundancies and ineffectual managers. This has now become a pretty cut-throat organisation and not for the faint hearted!

Pros

None none none none none (wanted five words to be able to submit this page)

Cons

Myopic Leadership, Senseless work environment especially in GSS Bangalore, Herd Mentality - no chance of any growth prospects unless you are one of the "favoured ones" Forget growth, professional development or perks if you are anything but a Tamilian/Malayalee/South Indian.
