Walking dead...Emperor's New Clothes

Pros

The beautiful campus, fresh fruit, gym, beer bashes, celebrity entertainment, and the turtles.

Cons

Emperor's new clothes: It is an incredibly political place where people are no longer comfortable with speaking up about issues (product, people, strategy...). And there are certain executives who terrorize and belittle their people with no recourse. They missed the boat on public cloud in a big way - hampered their product teams by mandating that they support vCloud Air, at the expense of avoiding Amazon, Microsoft and Google. The public cloud offering is sub-par - does NOTHING to streamline the experience for hybrid cloud, which was supposed to be the POINT. Why would a customer manage workloads one way with private cloud and a completely different way for 'public'. This is what happens when you let a handful of egomaniacs drive product strategy. Walking Dead: The result is a campus full of zombies. There is no life there anymore. It's a sad, sad ending to what used to be a great company. And you can't blame the current state entirely on the Dell/EMC acquisition. We were on life support before that all came about.

Pros

Fantastic place to gain experience as companies love VMware on your CV. You will meet a lot of like minded people who are very knowledgeable in what they do. The people that work in VMware make VMware the company that it is. Unfortunately it seems that for the past 6 months VMware has had an overflow of employees who are leaving the company. This in turn has put a great amount of pressure on the people who are currently still with VMware.

Cons

Management in VMware is one of the worst I have ever experienced. Promises are made but very rarely kept. Pressure is piled on to perform and get results that are ridiculous and impossible to achieve. Company (Management) needs to focus on weeding out the managers that are the reason for all of the senior engineers leaving the company. Currently VMware is not offering a competitive wage. A similar job in other tech companies can easily result in a 100% increase in wage. This is another reason why people are leaving VMware. If the management stopped focusing on hiring WPP's (who definitely deserve the chance to get back to work) and put more effort into keeping people with experience the company would have a much better foot to stand on compared to other tech companies. Also, in relation to the wages it is advisable to pay the industry standard rate instead of trying to get by with measly pay increases of 2-3%

High turnover rate for a reason

Pros

VMWare is becoming more involved and hopefully changing the culture at Air Watch.

Cons

The entire business model of AirWatch is finding the cheapest possible labor. They usually hire recent graduates who have no idea how underpaid they are. Most of the people who leave usually find jobs that double their former salary at AirWatch. They exploit smart people who join Air Watch from their Wandering Wifi division by paying them extremely low wages and use their lack of education as an excuse. There is a reason why the moment the most talented people are leaving Air Watch at an alarming rate. Don't be fooled when Air Watch claims to be one of the best companies or best paying companies. That stat is all VMWare, Air Watch is nothing like VMWare...the only thing they share is a name.
