      I would like to have liked VMware; it seems like it would have been a great place to work just a few years ago.

      Pros

      - Company has an impressive and distinguished history - Core technologies and many of the people who work on them are very impressive - Good benefits.

      Cons

      - Lots of very poor middle management. - A questionable tier of executive management lies between the CEO and the rest of the company. - Many ill conceived, floundering junk projects. - Outside the core cash cow businesses, other initiatives are often questionable either technically, or from a business standpoint, or both. - Engineering morale is poor in many groups and seems to be continuing to deteriorate. - Worrisome attrition in multiple parts of the company. - Salaries compare poorly with those of peer companies.

      Pros

      VMware has some good products and had a lot of potential to be a great company. The base pay and benefits are decent. Lovely campus and physical surroundings.

      Cons

      The worst middle management that I have ever seen. Tech Pubs in particular is rife with bureaucratic politics, favoritism and unethical managers asking employees to help them spy on other employees Departmental politics hurt VMware because they foster a culture where those who invest long hours in office politics are rewarded rather than the innovaters, team players and hard workers.

      Pros

      Looks like a good opportunity on paper. Nice building, free food, nice facilities overall.

      Cons

      The senior management team is the most dysfunctional I've seen yet. Constant gossip and in-fighting among the VPs. It's a toxic environment. CEO has no clue what's going on within the company. He seems to have good external focus, but poor internal leadership. And current COO doesn't unify the executive team.
