Pros

It's an exciting place to be and I love working with 'A players' in the industry. People are smart and motivated, which has meant that we are able to retain great talent. I have been at the company for 5 years and VMware has consistently grown and been profitable - even through a very rough economic climate. I attribute that success and vision to the executive leadership.

Cons

VMware will suck the life out of you if you let it. Work / life balance is a constant struggle. The pay is not as competitive as other companies. Working in 5th gear all of the time gets exhausting.

Cutting edge technology, high industry buzz factor, competitive salary, telecommuting (for some, not all, depends on location and job title)

Cons

Insufficient infrastructure tools, constantly changing processes, lip service ONLY in terms of work/life balance, huge pressure to "meet the numbers" - i.e. you hear words like "blood commit" - it is ALL about the number, middle management tends to shoot first based on hearsay (as opposed to getting all sides of a story) and ask questions later.
