Pros

It is THE place to be for the upcoming cloud computing field. Seems to be a good company as long as you're outside the support (GSS) organization.

Cons

GSS management is pure amateur hour. They change to one side this month, and next month, are changing back to the way it used to be. Complete joke. Also, factor-in the ~18% pay cut in the "reclassification" to hourly for the support engineers and you end-up making less than you made when you started years ago! No matter what anyone tells you, this is a call center and driven entirely by metrics and making you pump the call volume.

Pros

Diane Greene set up one of the greatest software companies in history and Paul Maritz extended very well by laying out a very nice vision.

Cons

From a company valuing people to a company valuing spreadsheet metrics a bit more. Organization structure is a lot more "scalable". Nothing wrong with any of the above especially considering vmware is a publicly traded company after all.

Pros

The Palo Alto office is a dream. Beautiful, full of trees. Great cafeteria and gym. Fantastic perks such as on-site dental, dry-cleaning, and gym. The company has a great future and super vision. Most people are very willing to work together for the common good

Cons

Value of the individual contributor is limited. Layoffs show the lack of value in accumulated knowledge of employees. There is no coordinated effort to help employees advance. No system of any kind for training and `advancement. Some areas of the company are very political.
