The people. The best thing about VMware is the talented people that you work with.

Cons

- Lack of management transparency - Very little career advancement opportunity I have worked at VMware for a couple of years now and because of the people and products I have worked hard to help make this a great place to work. Recently things have been much worse and the statements made by senior management are starting to be shown as less than what they seemed.

great products, enthusiastic and loyal customer base, great brand recognition. Paul Maritz is a great leader and is the right person to take the company forward.

Cons

no career advancement. New senior management (VP layer) is very poor - lack of experience and no respect for past years and what their teams have achieved. very very political in marketing. Promotions only for those in the "in" crowd.

Smart people, technology is changing the world, join the right group/find the right manager and it could be the job of your lifetime

Cons

head of engineering cares about himself, not about vmware, his employees, or customers. it shows. the sense of mission and purpose has faltered since founders left. more and more well-respected old-timers are voting with their feet. not quite a domino effect yet, but feels like we could be on the verge, and then watch out. middle management quality is and always has been inconsistent. do your homework on potential boss before accepting a job.
