Pros

The good thing in working at VMware it to be a part of the most exciting, advanced technology company. This is a good place to create connections / networking in IT industry.

Cons

Sectionalism - Operation is not so much effective. Poor delegation - micro management style had not been changing since VMware was 100 people company until now its even over 6000 people company. As a result, the decision making process is sometime very slow. American centric and no torelance to local commercial custom made it difficult to be strong in non English countries.

It's fun and rewarding. Tests you but gives back as well.

Cons

You work hard and it can still be frustrating finding the 'right' person to talk to sometimes.

Pros

VMware has the best hypervisor available hands down, both for servers and the desktop. VMware is widely respected in the computer industry. Somehow, the management is sane and the company is structured in a really engineer-centric way. Low paperwork / bureaucratic overhead for developers. On top of that, it's a fun place to work. Free food / candy / drinks in the kitchens. The foosball tables are used pretty regularly amongst the staff.

Cons

Specter of some of the monolith competitors hang over the workplace (i.e. Microsoft).
