      A great company going astray

      Pros

      VMware has incredible technology, and incredible market vision. There are great people in all the various parts of the organization and when things work, communication is incredible and things get done.

      Cons

      Executive management seems to think that culture is just contained in the core developers. They are systematically cutting anything that is not a core engienering roll and either off shoring or doing without. It is leaving behind a fragile eco-system that is waiting for the shoe to drop and cutting off innovation. The way in which their silent lay offs have occurred have been rife with politics. Your job security isn't about how good you are, but about who you are buddied up with.

      Pros

      Great technology customers are typically happy with vmware no lack of sales activity vmware still a buzz word company with customers

      Cons

      almost no promotions within the company - most hires from outside - great culture has become too diluted. turnover increasing. morale going down across the board. technology innovation stalling - OEMing more technology from other companies. internal sales tools are brittle. most customers have purchased their core technologies - concerns over future lines of revenue too many version 1.0 products - new products do not scale to the levels needed (or expected by customers). Reward risks - Presidents club for sales cancelled after the end of the year and after winners had been announced Sales organization divided into 2 branches (Enterprise and Commercial) causing large amounts of internal conflict due to no formal, enforced rules (customer assignments and sales achievement). No feeling like we're "one team" anymore.

      Mid level Management is not good, Every day a new story is cooked, Employee's are never recognized, 6 CIO's got change since i joined. Every CIO brings his own people and perform very poor
