Pros
A very big organization and getting bigger by the day in terms of revenue, people, profits, campus size - you name it. I have been here almost five years, and in all fairness, executive management has handled it well as the company and its business has scaled. A lot of opportunities and interesting projects to work on as VMware takes the idea of virtualization to the entire data center. Some old timers are still around so one can be lucky in finding a great mentor. mid level, experienced (me) engineers add to the strength of execution, while younger new grads, interns bring in new ideas, energy and fun.
Cons
Going up the ladder can be challenging which depends on the kind of project you are working on. If you are involved in a project that has a significant business impact and you see it through, the odds are better for your team, business unit to grow and along with that comes your professional growth. The challenge is to find and getting involved in such a project/product development.
