      Pros

      VMware is a highly visible company with great technology. The datacenter movement towards dynamimc processing and a mobile workforce puts VMware in place to make tremendous strides in becoming a household name.

      Cons

      Management is extremely unprepared and lacking knowledge about the product set. There is a lot of "handing off" where management is incompetent in handling customer requests and the workload falls on the staff. There is also a high level of paranoia within the walls of VMware. They monitor several websites for any employees posting their resumes. They are particularly preoccupied with Microsoft stealing customers with their new virtualization products.

      Great Engineers, Very Poor Direction

      Pros

      Vmware has the most interesting technology of the decade. You will really feel you are the cause for a revolution in computer industry. The company has some of the greatest engineers in the industry. You are surrounded by people who have around 10 patents just on their name and many more as a group. The technical discussions are really evolved and interesting and a great place to learn.

      Cons

      Though VMware has great technology, the problem is there is a great divide between the "Gurus" and non-Gurus. There is no process at all in this company. No documentation of any form, what ever is there is useless. QA folks have to imagine stuff they are testing and this leads to a lot of time wastage and mis-understanding, mis-communication etc. There is a big ego for the "Gurus" that they are the only ones that are required to run the company.

      Pros

      Vmware has an incredible team of dedicated employees and technologies. Each individual contributors works to support others. Career opportunities outside the company are increased based on VMware experience.

      Cons

      Promotions are very difficult to achieve regardless of time or accomplishments. Pay is not competitive with other companies and similar positions. Use of vacation is discouraged unless done as a few days at a time.
