      Pros

      the products this company creates are the future. at this time this is one of the few places where you can still come in and see a direct impact. while the place is getting bigger you still have the opportunity to directly impact that growth

      Cons

      There are no real downsides here, but the main risk VMware has exposed it self to is: the company has growing fast and in the process, the standards have dropped. too many "not my job" and "old company" type people have slipped in. as these "C" grade people get in they hire "C" and "D" level staff, not the "A" level that can build a company. the opportunity to slip folks in under the radar will destroy these place. We don't want to wake up and find we are just another ISV?

      Pros

      the perks are great; there is lots of room for growth as vmware still operates like a startup. if you are process driven, this is not the place for you. lots of room for process growth. overall, it is a solid company which meets its numbers quarter after quarter. you dont have to worry about instability. the bonus payouts are solid and consistant. management is very supportive and the ability for higher education through vmware or externally is awesome. well worth it to have this company on your resume. i would recommend vmware to any of my friends and family.

      still operates like a startup. could be frustrating to those who are very process heavy.

      Pros

      I love what I do. I love to code and I get to work on kick-ass products.

      Cons

      Not as great as Microsoft in terms of healthcare and benefits. Not as great as Google in terms of food/snacks and other workplace perks. VMware used to have lots of great snacks, goodies, and drinks in the break rooms, but we've succumbed to the "organic" food dogma. Now break rooms are filled with a bunch of inedible stale crap. We used to get free lunches --only on wednesdays-- but now that got cut because we're trying to cut costs. If the work I did wasn't so rewarding, these little things just might drive me towards being an unhappy, unappreciated employee.
