company in turmoil

Pros

benefits, comp, flexibility (remote work), people and atmosphere were great before Dell took over

Cons

No one is sure of the direction Dell is looking to take this company in, seems they are trying to dissolve. Extremely cut throat atmosphere, major layoffs happening (I heard in the ballpark of 20%). When the most common word that pops up in the company reviews is 'circus' that should probably tell you something...

Pros

Decent health, dental, and vision. Pay is decent for what the job entails.

Cons

Politics are the order of the day. Yes, I realize there's politics at all jobs, but this is a whole other level. Following the Dell/EMC merger, EMC management has been dropping like flies. Meanwhile, any middle managers who are left are too busy politicking for advancement to actually do their jobs. Even among the regular employees, politics are huge. Nobody follows policy because management isn't around to enforce it. Thus, everyone has their own agenda, and it's a huge mess. Team morale is at an all-time low. There's a new person quitting from my group about every two weeks now. It's gotten to the point that anybody with longevity has already moved on to other opportunities.

Are we having fun? Ha!

Pros

There is some real talent here at the individual contributor level and is some areas of management and leadership.

Cons

There truly doesn't seem to be an attention paid to how poor some of the managers are or how week some of the leadership is. The focus from the top is on making money. Okay, how much more could you be making if folks in some areas weren't beaten down on a regular basis and weren't having to deal with ineffective management/leadership. Our CEO asked on the most recent Global call if we are all having fun because he sure is. That shows just how disconnected he really is. The Tell Dell survey took place recently too. I know some managers were actually discouraging their people from participating or being honest if they did - strongly hinting that it wouldn't truly be confidential.
